Saturdays at 10:30AM, this class will be held at Grant Road School Gym, 2501 Grant Rd. This 10-week course starts January 11. Learning the Lion dance is a great workout, builds lots of strength and endurance and is lots of fun! No experience necessary. The Lion Dance is an exciting spectacle, part of the Kung Fu martial art tradition that delights, entertains and is said to bring good luck! Teamwork is a big part of the quest to make the lucky creature come to life. In this program, we’ll cover all the basic steps of a basic Lion Dance, with the objective of performing a dance in its entirety at the end of the course. There are at least seven key drumming/musical rhythms to learn and everyone will try their hand learning how to play the cymbals, gong, and big Lion drum! The Lion steps are based on Kung Fu footwork.
